Computing

Our Aims:

Our overall aim is to enhance learning in all areas of the curriculum through the use of computing and to provide children with the tools to use the Internet safely. We try to use computers and new technologies as much as possible to enhance our curriculum and to help our children to learn key skills. To facilitate this, all children have access to a Chromebook or iPad to develop their computing skills and to learn the importance of Internet safety.

How is Computing taught?:

Computing is taught within classes by the class teacher. Technology is used to enhance learning throughout all lessons and all children have an isolated computing lesson every fortnight.

Computing at Burton Green:

In line with the new National Curriculum, we have created our own scheme of work for computing. Children learn skills across a range of topics including coding and programming their own games and apps. There is also an opportunity for them to develop and refine other computer life skills such as typing, word processing, data handling and creating and editing pictures.

Central to all of the work covered is how to use the Internet in an effective and safe way, including how to keep safe, protect our information and learning about cyber-bullying. We have introduced a scheme of work to support online safety and make use of the 2018 Google Internet Legends Scheme.
